WhatsApp werkt mogelijk aan een nieuwe communityfunctie [Update]

WhatsApp is ongetwijfeld een van de grootste instant messaging-platforms die er zijn. Ondanks dat hij zo groot en populair is, voegt de app traag functies toe. Meerdere bijvoorbeeld populaire IM-apps bieden naadloze chatback-up en synchronisatie tussen Android en iOS, maar WhatsApp is pas onlangs begonnen met verhuren iOS-gebruikers migreren hun chats naar Android, en zelfs dat is beperkt tot Samsung Galaxy-apparaten en blijft buggy en verre van hun eigen instructies. Dit zijn allemaal nieuwe toevoegingen aan WhatsApp, wat aangeeft dat er aan een nieuwe Community-functie wordt gewerkt. En zo te zien zal de Community-functie ook behoorlijk wat overlap hebben met de bestaande Groepen-functie. In feite hebben de meeste van deze Community-gerelateerde strings "parent_group" als onderdeel van hun string-ID. In eerste instantie dachten we dat dit niets anders was dan een hernoeming van Groepen naar Gemeenschap. Maar deze Community-tekenreeksen zijn nieuwe toevoegingen en bestaan ​​naast alle bestaande tekenreeksen die verband houden met Groepsfuncties, wat aangeeft dat de twee functies naast elkaar kunnen bestaan. Hier is speculatie aan onze kant over wat deze Community-functie zou kunnen zijn: Community zou mogelijk een sociale-mediafunctie binnen WhatsApp kunnen zijn als een IM-app, vergelijkbaar met wat een Facebook-groep nu is. Een WhatsApp-community kan meerdere WhatsApp-groepen binnen zichzelf hosten (of andersom), en ook een speciaal kanaal zijn waar beheerders berichten kunnen sturen. Maar in tegenstelling tot kanalen waar berichten alleen door de beheerder worden geplaatst en die geen enkele discussie bevorderen, kunnen communityposts dat wel doen host mogelijk thread-reacties, zoals hoe Telegram thread-reacties op zijn eigen kanaal mogelijk maakt berichten. Een dergelijke implementatie zou de nieuwe Community-functie kunnen onderscheiden van de bestaande Groepsfunctie, en zou ook de string-ID's verklaren. Misschien kunnen er nog meer beheerders- en managementrollen komen, waardoor de gemeenschap de mogelijkheid krijgt om verder te groeien dan de grenzen van wat groepen op dit moment kunnen zijn.

Houd er echter rekening mee dat dit, zoals gezegd, speculatie aan onze kant is. Er is nog steeds een mogelijkheid dat WhatsApp de naam van groepen eenvoudigweg verandert in de naam Community, en de stringvervanging heeft niet plaatsgevonden in deze bètaversie. Er zijn nog een paar andere onwaarschijnlijke mogelijkheden. Met de snelheid waarmee functies op WhatsApp worden geïntroduceerd, kan het ook jaren duren voordat deze functie stabiel wordt uitgebracht.
