Google Messages bereidt end-to-end-codering voor voor RCS, Google Fi-integratie en handmatige cloudherstel

Eerder vandaag kwamen onze vrienden bij AndroidPolitie de hand hebben gehad Google Berichten 6.2.031 en geüpload naar APKMirror. Onze vriend Quinny899 liet ons weten dat deze APK eigenlijk een dogfood-build is, wat betekent dat het niet de bedoeling was dat deze voor het publiek zou worden vrijgegeven. Soms bevatten deze dogfood-builds veel interessante code voor functies die in ontwikkeling zijn, en Messages 6.2.031 is zeker een van die gevallen. Deze dogfood-build geeft aan dat Google end-to-end-codering voor RCS-berichten voorbereidt, Google Fi-accountintegratie om oproepen, sms-berichten en voicemails te synchroniseren, en handmatig cloudherstel van back-ups.

End-to-end-codering voor RCS

RCS wordt algemeen gezien als de opvolger van SMS. Met RCS kunnen gebruikers mediabestanden in hoge kwaliteit uitwisselen, leesbevestigingen bekijken, type-indicatoren zien, groepschats starten en meer doen via mobiele data en zelfs wifi. In plaats van te wachten tot providers het RCS-protocol zelf overnemen, is Google begonnen met het uitrollen van RCS-ondersteuning in de Google Berichten app voor iedereen in Groot-Brittannië en Frankrijk. Later rolden ze RCS-ondersteuning uit in de Berichten-app voor mensen in de VS, Spanje, Italië, Singapore, Portugal, Argentinië, Pakistan, Polen en Turkije.

Een functie die populaire berichten-apps zoals WhatsApp en Telegram ondersteunen, maar RCS niet, is end-to-end-codering, maar het lijkt erop dat Google zich voorbereidt om daar op eigen kracht ondersteuning voor toe te voegen. De grootste nieuwe functie die in de maak is in Google Messages 6.2.031 is "End-to-End Encrypted Rich Communication Service message[s]." Volgens de strings heeft u de mogelijkheid om berichten te versturen met end-to-end encryptie of, als uw dataverbinding slecht is, zonder encryptie door terug te vallen op Sms/mms.

U kunt zelfs uw locatie verzenden via een end-to-end gecodeerd bericht:

Ten slotte lijkt het erop dat u kunt kiezen of andere apps al dan niet toegang hebben tot uw end-to-end gecodeerde berichten. Externe app-ontwikkelaars zijn dat momenteel echter wel kan RCS-ondersteuning niet implementeren in hun berichten-apps.

Google Fi-integratie

Een andere nieuwe functie waar veel gebruikers naar uitkijken is de Google Fi-integratie. Hoewel Google Hangouts is onderweg, zijn nog steeds aanbevolen aan gebruikers die hun oproepen, sms-berichten en voicemails op meerdere apparaten willen zien en erop willen reageren. Dat zou echter snel kunnen veranderen, aangezien Google Messages zich voorbereidt om de achterstand op te vangen.

Zodra de bovenstaande instellingenpagina voor alle gebruikers live gaat, kunnen Google Fi-abonnees zich aanmelden bij hun account om alle sms-berichten, oproepen of voicemails die ze op verschillende schermen hebben te synchroniseren. Google Berichten heeft een webapp gehad al bijna twee jaar, dus dit is waarschijnlijk waar Google Fi-gebruikers hun teksten kunnen lezen en erop kunnen reageren.

Wanneer u zich aanmeldt bij uw Google Fi-account in Google Berichten, heeft u de mogelijkheid om de gespreksgeschiedenis over te zetten van Hangouts naar Berichten. Helaas kunt u geen berichten of spraakoproepen met een computer synchroniseren als u RCS in Bericht inschakelt. Als u de synchronisatie van meerdere apparaten uitschakelt in de instellingen, heeft u ook geen toegang tot oproepen en voicemails op internet, maar kunt u nog steeds sms'en vanaf internet.

Back-up herstellen

Ten slotte zijn er twee lay-outbestanden toegevoegd die verwijzen naar een nieuwe instellingenpagina om berichten te herstellen waarvan een back-up in de cloud is gemaakt: herstel_activiteit_layout.xml en herstel_fragment_layout.xml. De back-upservice in Google Play Services, evenals de back-upservice in Google One, kan een back-up maken van uw berichten en deze herstellen wanneer u zich voor het eerst aanmeldt bij een nieuw apparaat. Het lijkt erop dat Google Berichten je de keuze geeft om handmatig een eerdere back-up van je gesprekken te herstellen.
